PHILOSOPHY

Dr. Albaugh coaching and teaching philosophy:
“No matter how hard it tries, by spotlighting equipment technology and swings, the golf industry will not kill the inner game.” The Kingdom of Shivas Irons, by Michael Murphy.

Our philosophy leads a cultural shift in teaching and playing golf to a more performance based package .

Developing coach and player relationships to promote high-level performance and to uncover sources of player confidence and trust.  The relationship between the coach and the student/player will become more reliant upon facilitating learning rather than teaching. Shifting the flow of information from the coach to the player is not only an act of courage for the coach it is an act of trust and faith, from which supreme self-confidence emerges. A Coach will become a trusted advisor, a protagonist for Active Learning, Self-Discovery, Self-Coaching.

Self-Coaching:  Wouldn’t it be great to walk from the practice to the first tee knowing you had a swing you could trust…..knowing that you could manage yourself and your game….knowing you had a fail-safe pre shot routine…..knowing that you could bounce back quickly from mistakes. Today’s technologically advanced golf industry has all sorts of ways to promote equipment and swings as the surest path to high performance.

Developing a swing that works and finding matching equipment is a starting point for improved performance, but it’s merely the price of admission to the highest level of play.

To reach that zone of high performance, to bridge the gap from technology to performance you’ve got to add structure, discipline and mental skills from the ever broadening field of sport psychology. To that end, Winning The Battle Within performance workshops are a perfect fit.

Self-Discovery

Internal feedback is the cornerstone of Self-Discovery and originates from your Athletic Mind. It comes as a matter of feel, as a clear image of the ball flight, and the sound and feel of your club at impact. Most players can correctly predict how they hit the ball – left, right, or down the middle – even when they don’t see the ball leave the club head. They can feel rhythm and tempo during the swing, providing they’re in touch with their Athletic Mind.

Testimonials

Laird Small, Director of Golf at the Pebble Beach Golf Academy, and PGA national teacher of the year in 2003, says, “in Winning The Battle Within, the contingency practice on the range, and the inner-game skills the book teaches are ideal for building the bridge from the practice range to the course.”

‘Dr. Glen Albaugh has made high performance a life’s pursuit.  He has always employed impeccable communication between coach and athlete.  Extraordinary information is only valuable when the athlete can translate it into his play!’  Pete Carroll. Seattle Seahawks

“The best coaches teach their players performance skills that make the transition from practice mode to competition mode seamless and natural. If you want to help your players transition to perform at their highest level, when it matters most, this workshop is a must.”Anne Walker, Stanford’s Women’s Golf Coach: 2114 National Champions and 2015 runner up.

By coaching people instead of swings the Coach of the Future will not be just a fix-it coach, but a trusted mentor, a facilitator for learning, for more enjoyment, and a protagonist for Self-Discovery and Self-Coaching.
